The Door of Temptation
(Gen 4:7)

1 Corinthians 10:13

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The Door of Hope (Hosea 2:14-16)

The Valley of Achor means “the valley of trouble” When Israel conquered Jericho in their first confrontation in the effort to secure the Promised Land they were commanded not to touch the accursed things in Jericho. All the valuable vessels in Jericho were to be put into treasury of the Lord. A fellow named Achan violated the Lords command.

He walked right through the door of temptation and took a pile of stuff out of Jericho and buried the stuff in his tent. (The sin of Achan cursed Israel into a defeat at Ai costing Israel 36 men.) The only way to take away the reproach of Israel was to take Achan out and put him to death.

This is the door of hope because even as the Valley of Achor was the place where Achan sin is revealed, and judged, and punished, and put away. If we will come outside the camp and be honest about our guilt before God, he’ll take that guilt and shame and pin it Calvary and put it away forever.

John 10:7-9

7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
