The Supreme Court
(Zech 3:1-5)
God is a God of order and as such, all that he’s created works within certain laws, a divine economy of sorts. Nebuchadnezzar observed the Lord as the King of Heaven, whose works are truth, and his ways judgment. It’s within this order that he ordained the institution of Government within the covenant established with Noah. He later gave a thorough set of laws to Moses and set Moses as judge over his people. It was by way of judges that he chose to rule over his own people for a number of years.
The laws and high courts of this land were in large fashioned after those found in the scripture in spite of the Satanic bunch of venomous lies spilled out by the ACLU.
And while we have a court in this country that we refer to as Supreme, the highest court of appeals, with a perfect and righteous record, under a single, sovereign, sinless judge is above your head, due North several hundred-thousand light years. That High-court’s rulings, every one, are of eternal consequence.
I’d like for us, this morning, to use our imaginations a bit with the scriptures as our guide, and let us step into the Supreme Court of heaven.
Now I hope that this message will encourage the believer, but first let us look at the most common, and most tragic sort of case that comes before God.
The Plan for the Ages (Paraclete-church age) à The Great White Throne Judgment
Now we’re looking at the final trial of a lost man at the GWT judgment. Now unfortunately for this person, there will be no court appointed representation since he ignored the Paraclete’s offer to take his case while he was on earth. This man will be representing himself before the judgment bar of God. Now typically you would need a prosecuting attorney in order to properly conduct a court trial, and there does happen to be one present whom we’ll mention later, but his services won’t be needed for this particular case, because to the lost man’s surprise the verdict has been decided thousands of years prior to this date.
And so as the court records are opened and the recording angel booms aloud the charge:
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
The Judge with his piercing stare asks the defendant if he has anything to say in his own defense:
“Well, yes your Honour. Do you remember the times I put my tithe in the plate at church?
Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of
God may be purchased with money. Acts
Don’t you recall my saintly mother and grandmother, and what sweet souls they were?
That which is born of
the flesh is flesh. John 3:6
You know I never did go out on my wife…
Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed
adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:28
But I never did steal anything and I always was obedient to my parents…
For whosoever shall
keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. James
2:10
But don’t you remember I was baptized and joined that church?
Ye must be born again.
John 3:7
At last the Judge will command the Book of Life be opened and a search mad for this person’s name.
The recording angel will call across the court room, “Lord, it’s not there.”
The Lord will then turn to his bailiff and his attending mighty angels and thunder out, “Take him away…”
The condemned will cry out, “But Lord… Lord…”
To which the Judge will justly respond, Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord shall enter…
And as the angels bind him hand and foot according Matt 22:13, that booming voice from the Great White Throne might say,
I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7:23
Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Matthew 25:41
And so the sentence will be carried out: Death.
Well, this man has already died once, so how do you condemn a dead man to death. Simple. He’s condemned to the Second Death. (Rev 20:14-15)
Now, Hypothetically…
What if (and I know it can’t happen, but just imagine for a moment), what if a child of God, a born again, blood washed child of God could be put on trial at this final judgment. Just suppose it for a moment.
Now we’ve already identified the Judge of all as he’s described in Hebrews 12:23, that’s God himself. And if you as a saved child of God were put on trial there’s only one that you’d expect to bring charges. This scene has been played out thousands of times under various circumstances, such as there in Zechariah 3. Another related ordeal takes place in Job 1 and 2. And the prosecuting attorney is always the same. He’s referred to in Revelation 12:10 as “the accuser of the brethren.”
And so you’d be called up (now remember I’m just talking hypothetically about a saved man this morning) and the charges might be put forth as follows.
The Lord may address that serpent the devil as he did back in Job saying, Satan, whence comest thou?
And the devil would respond with saying, Well your Honor (see he never calls him Lord, although he will before long). This man before claims to have a place in your perfect kingdom, among your perfect family in your perfect family. Well as you know Sir he’s not in the least bit fit for such a standing, because, well, without going through the list of his offenses at this time, he’s a sinner, of course. You did say somewhere sir, that all have sinned did you not? And well Sir, you see his trouble goes back to his forefather who chose me in the garden, and plainly your law declares that Adam’s guilt.” And as that fact leaves his lips you can hear a slight his from spit tongue. “And Sir, I propose to you that according to your own law, “by the offense of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation.”
And to this point the defense has sat silently. You see, the lost man had no one to plead his case. But if you could be accused by old slew foot, the scripture declares to us that are redeemed “that if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).
And it is at this point in the trial, before you need say anything in your own defense that the Lord Jesus Christ stands up beside you and cries out in a voice like thunder that causes Satan himself to shiver with fear, “Objection.” “LORD, I believe he failed to quote the whole verse, for while by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life (Rom 5:18).”
“Lord, if I may present to the court at the this time the Defenses Exhibit A?” And with all eyes locked in on the Saviour, he reaches forth his hands to produce the nail scars. And as the Judge nods his head, and the Devil hangs his. And the Advocate continues…
“My client’s objection is the cross, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Father, you commended your love to my client, that while he was yet a sinner, I died for him.”
“Lord, clearly this man’s sentence has been once, for all paid for. Which makes this entire proceeding Double Jeopardy.
And so the gavel comes down, and you hear, Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou in to the joy of the Lord.
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
Romans 8:33
