Power in the Blood
Acts 20:28

The Significance of blood throughout the Bible. (used 447 times in scripture)

Shed in war in judgment or vengeance, shed in worship in remission or cleansing.

There’s only one kind of blood that ever eternally effected the history of mankind. There’s only one kind of blood that remains unforgotten by the saints of God for 2000 years. There’s only one kind of blood that’s ever been revered in songs, hymns, and poems the world over. There’s only one kind of blood that they about around the throne of God.

Revelation 5:9

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

It’s the blood of Jesus. It is and will forever be a great and permanent fixture at the heart of our faith, because there’s power, power…

1. Declaring Power Genesis 4:3-8… Hebrews 12:24

(The first time “blood” is used in the Bible)

  • Abel: Redeemer
  • Called righteous by Jesus Christ in Matt 23:35 speaking of shed blood
  • Abel is a shepherd
  • Abel didn’t die for his own sin, but for the sin of another
  • Cain rose up against him, no record of his defending himself
  • The blood cried out (after Cain tried to cover it up)
  • Christ’s blood speaks!

a. It speaks because it’s alive.

  • The Holy One of God didn’t suffer corruption, because that blood is alive.

b. It speaks because it’s free.

  • The blood of Jesus never said anything until it was poured out at Calvary.

c. It speaks because it’s strong.

  • 2000 years and still shouting!
    • When the world said I was condemned, the blood declared I’m justified.
    • When the world said I was sold under sin… redeemed
    • When the world said I was to far gone to come to God… made nigh.
    • When the world said I was filthy, the blood declared my cleanded

2. Delivering Power Joshua 2:18,21… Romans 5:9

It was the scarlet chord that set Rahab the harlot apart from the rest of the inhabitants of Jericho. The only thing that delivers our souls from certain loss and destruction is the blood of Jesus.

  • All the deaths on that brow. All the blood shed on Roman crosses.
  • Not the when I see the corpse… when I see the blood.

3. Defending Power II Kings 3:22-24… Rev 12:11

When Ahab, the king of Israel died, the Moabite king decided he wasn’t going to pay tribute in subjection to Israel anymore. So the new king of Israel Jehoram got the king of Judah, Jehoshaphat, along with the king of Edom to join up with him to put the Moabites back into subjection. They’re making a 7 day trip through the wilderness of Edom to attack the Moabites, but their was such a drought that they thought they would die there in the dessert. They called up Elisha, and the Lord instructed them to dig ditches and he’d send them rain.

  • When the meat offering was offered the rain started to fall.
  • Read vs. 22-24

Psalm 22: bulls of bashan/dogs compassed me, it speaks of the demonic struggle that went on at Calvary.

The Moabites thought the blood meant victory and spoil for their army, but they didn’t realize it was produced by the rising sun.

When the demons of hell saw the blood let from the Saviour’s side they must have danced in victory, but little did they know that heavens greatest secret weapon had just been unleashed on hell’s best made plans.

That blood is more than just soul-saving blood:

a. It’s soul keeping blood.

b. It’s conscience purging blood (Heb 9:14)

c. It’s Devil overcoming blood (Rev 12:11)
