God’s Great Work (Neh 6:1-4)
Any work of God is a ‘great work,’ so we need to remain
faithful in the “great work” that God has given us:
1. Building and maintaining a good Christian home is a great
work – Josh. 24:15

- Lo,
children are an heritage of the LORD: and the
fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalms 127:3
- And,
ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath:
but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
- Teaching
a child to hunt, fish, sew, or work are good
efforts toward our children, but teaching them to pray is a “great work.”
- Helping
a child with their homework or reading to them is a good thing to do for
your children, but letting them see you read your own Bible is a “great
work.”
- When
we stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ the instruction of our
children in righteousness will not be something that our children’s School
teacher, or daycare provider, or SS teacher will be held responsible for,
it will be us that give an account for their instruction in the things of
God.
- Marriage
is intended to be a reflection of Christ and the church,
Parenting is intended to be a reflection of God and his children.
- (For if a man know not how to rule his
own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1 Timothy 3:5
- I’ve
never met someone that was right with God that was sorry for their
Christian upbringing.
2. Being faithful in the work of
the church is a great work – 1 Cor 15:58
- Not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day
approaching. Hebrews 10:25
- Aquila and Priscila opened
their home to host a church, Paul asked Timothy to bring him some clothes
and paperwork, Luke followed Paul around tending to his physical condition
- Parade
float decorations, counting committee\
- Support
the ministry with your time and talents and resources.
3. Building and maintaining your Christian testimony is a
great work – Heb 11:5
- 1 Thess 1:1-10
- One of
your greatest assets as a Christian in personal work is good Christian
testimony. Or it can be the greatest detriment to your being an effective
witness.
- You
build a good Christian testimony by being faithful. The Christian life is
likened in the Bible to a race, but it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
4. Maintaining private devotions with God is a great work –
Mark 1:35
- God
created you and me to fellowship with himself. It’s a great work when
consent to be a part of that kind of fellowship.
