Witnessing at the World Cup

Posted in Missions, Outreach, Soul-Winning at 1:24 pm by Administrator

The most anticipated sporting event in the world got kicked off on June 11th in South Africa, the 2010 FIFA World Cup of Soccer (or “Football” for the rest of the world). As hundreds of thousands of fans converged on the large cities of South Africa to view the many national soccer match-ups a  devoted band of Bible-believing Christians from various parts of Africa hit the streets to preach and pass out gospel literature to the many nations that had come to them for this mother-of-all-sporting-events. Our church provided for the shipping expense of getting 10,000 soccer-themed Chick tracts to South Africa for the occasion. The local brethren on the ground in Johannesburg (where this company of believers are rallying) were working on getting tens of thousands of more cartoon tracts in various languages printed locally for the occasion. I’m looking forward to hearing from Bro. Dobbins (Zambia) and Bro. Fluech (Malawi) as to how this outreach went. As you see the World Cup highlights on the news remember to pray for these folks as they literally get the gospel in to the hands of the “world” that has traveled to South Africa.

Family Devotions on Soul-Winning

Posted in Bible, Family, Soul-Winning at 1:09 pm by Administrator

We recently began a new series of lessons on Sunday nights on the subject of soul-winning (in time these recordings will be available on our website as well as our Sermon Audio page). In an effort to compliment this subject and encourage our families to worship God and study scripture in the home, we’ve prepared some family devotions on this subject. We’ve done what we can to distribute these lessons in a printed format at church, but the lessons have also been uploaded to our website under “Family Devotions” or you can access these lessons by clicking here. The issue of personally leading people to Christ is of great importance obviously, but there’s probably nothing that will more positively impact a home spiritually that actually conducting family worship. The old adage is that “the family that prays together, stays together.” If that’s true, there are an awful lot of families that aren’t praying together and I feel sure there are even more families that rarely if ever read or study God’s word together. There are nine-weeks worth of lessons in these soul-winning devotions, with three devotions per week. Whether you use this or just pick a Bible subject or book, regular family devotions will be a blessing to any home.

The Gleanings are Worth It

Posted in Outreach, Soul-Winning at 9:46 pm by Administrator

It seems that evangelism in the church age has gone through three stages. That pattern, which is so very common in scripture, can be described by the different stages of a harvest. The first phase is the firstfuits. This might account for the first 1500 years or so of church history. The second phase is the harvest. This might take in the Reformation right on through the sweeping revivals in England and America, and on in to the modern missionary movement. The third and final phase is the gleanings. This is the phase we’re in now. The sweeping revivals are over. The weeks long city-wide campaigns where hundreds and sometimes thousands of adult souls are converted are a thing of the past. This is not to be lamented. This is nature. But we should be reminded that the gleanings are worth going in to the field for. A Savior that commands that the fragments be gathered “that nothing be lost” (John 6:12), is not the sort of Savior that lays out during the gleaning season. As for me, I’m just thankful to be in the field to be a part of it. We had two men saved tonight at the jail. Two grown men, with tears in their eyes, that stood to their feet in the presence of their peers, and asked Jesus Christ to save them. Nobody got saved last week. But it sure was worth going back!
