A Promise Kept

Posted in Family at 8:12 pm by Administrator

Our Completed Clubhouse
Back in July we bought the playhouse that you see above. Kelly had saved for months and all the grandparents pitched in to help pay for it (this is this year’s Christmas gift for the boys). It has sat in five boxes on the carport here at home up until last week. I promised the boys we would put it together… and then I peaked at the directions! “It should take two moderately skilled adults approximately 20-24 hours to assemble this clubhouse.” This was an obvious problem. There is no one around here that is moderately skilled! It really looked like it would not get put together before the Zambia trip. Today we finished it, and by “we” I mean me and Taylor and Noah (and Owen a little). Perhaps none of that sounds especially spiritual for the “Pastor’s Blog”, but for me it is a promise kept!
“Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.” Ecclesiastes 5:5

Spitting Image

Posted in Family at 9:06 pm by Administrator

Owen Silas
I’ve had several folks comment just over the past couple of weeks how much Owen looks like me. “Looks like you spit him out of your mouth,” I’ve heard folks say. Now that doesn’t sound much like a compliment when you think about it. But as you can see he sure is a handsome little fellow, so I guess that I can take that as a compliment. His mother would be quick to tell you, he doesn’t only look like me, and I can tell you, that is not always good! He’s got a strong will and we’ve battled it a good bit lately. But we’re resolved and I’m “standing on the promises” (Prov 22:15, 29:15). This parenting business is an awfully big responsibilty. I read a great parenting article today. The last couple of lines set forth this truth: “The first step in child training is to decide what you want your child to become and them become that very person yourself. The second principle of child training is don’t complain or be surprised when they turn out to be just like you.” I guess I’m honored that the Lord has given me a son (actually three) “in my own likeness, after my own image.” I just hope I’m becoming the type of man that I would proud for my sons to become.

Back in Church After 20 Years

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:39 pm by Administrator

Yesterday I preached in Crestview (my hometown) at New Beginnings Church for their Homecoming and first day of Revival Services. New Beginnings was my home church before coming to Ridge Road. It was good to see some friends and get to have my whole family in church together. The services were well attended and I had good liberty to preach. The altars were full morning and evening. As an added bonus I had some of the best chicken I’ve ever put in my mouth! There was a lady in the services that testified that she had not been to church in 20 years and that she was glad God hadn’t given up on her and that she felt like she had found a church home. Praise the Lord! Twenty years is a long time. She also testified of the troubled condition of her family. After her testimony I preached on “Family Revival”! I guess the Lord “had her number”. After twenty years out of church, you’ll never guess how she wound up back at the church house. You ready for this…? Someone invited her. Amazing, right? As it turns out some folks are just waiting for an invitation. While it was fun to spend a day at our once “home church,” in our once “hometown,” for “Homecoming,” it is good to be home… in Brewton.

A Very Small Remnant

Posted in Outreach at 9:05 pm by Administrator

Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah. (Isa 1:9)
It’s Friday night. Favorite weekend TV shows will be airing, there will be videos to rent, dates to keep, restraunts to visit, friends to company with, and ball games to cheer at. After all, it’s been a long week, and we’ve worked hard for five days this is the only (or one of the only) nights we can do something just for ourselves. Don’t get me wrong. Spending time with your family (not your television) would be a night well spent. There are a hundred healthy unindulging activities that any of us could engage in on a Friday night, so don’t take this post as a rebuke if you went to a ball game, or a restraunt, or watched a television program. But I would like to say thank you for the “very small remnant” that made it out to W.S. Neal HS stadium at 5:30 PM this evening for the selfless exercise of distributing gospel literature to game-goers out of concern for the souls of men. There was plenty you could have been doing, but you sacrificed a couple of hours of your precious weekend to honor the Lord Jesus Christ by publishing the gospel. Gwynne, Betty, Mike, Louis, Kelly, Taylor, and Adrianna, truly your reward is in heaven.

Pounded for Pastor Appreciation

One Full Pantry
Before moving to Brewton I had never even heard of a “pounding”. But I was pleasantly surprised a few weeks after our arriving in 2005 that this practice had nothing at all to do with bodily harm, but the blessing of pounds of sugar, flour, pasta, etc. Well since we just moved in to our new home down the street our church folk decided to “pound” us again for Pastor Appreciation Month, and what a “pounding” it was. Over one-hundred pounds by my estimate. This includes 140+ oz. of tomato sauce, 12 lbs. of flour, 10 lbs. of pasta, 9 lbs of rice, and 28 lbs. of sugar! So, thank you Ridge Road, you have succeeded in filling our pantry. I heard several folks say over the course of the month, “We appreciate our Pastor every month of the year.” And without question, it’s true. How the Lord would ever see fit to permit me to pastor such a precious company of beloved saints I’ll never understand. All I can say is I’m blessed!

Welcome to the Pastor’s Blog

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:07 am by Administrator

Welcome to the Pastor’s blog! My name is Lee Cadenhead and I’m the Pastor of Ridge Road Baptist Church in Brewton, Alabama. I’m hoping this latest web feature will be a blessing, especially to our tech-savy church members. I send out letters to our church folks from time to time to share various things that are on my heart (and I’ll continue to do that on occasion), but a blog seems like a great way to stay in touch and pass along occasional handfuls of purpose to others. Special thanks to Donna Bell our Webmaster for getting this new feature off the ground. I’m looking forward to passing along devotional Bible nuggets, urgent announcements, and just staying in touch. Thanks for visiting and check back often…
